Open The Book

The Open the Book project takes a team of Christian people into our primary schools to present a dramatised Bible story-telling assembly every week. Open the book has teams in 130 Gloucestershire schools already giving an assembly to some 13,000 children every week. Our Open the Book team work in the local schools using stories, mainly based on the Lion “Storyteller’s Bible”, accompanied by high impact visual aids and simple drama. The thirty, ten-minute stories are in sequence giving ‘snapshots’ of the whole Bible. ‘Open the Book’ is offered as a free service to our local Primary schools. The project draws on the skills, talents and the hard work of a lot of people. All of them have a keen interest in education and are active in their own churches. All are giving of their time free and freely.   ...Top        ...Home

Alpha
Who is Alpha for?

Alpha is for everyone; no question is out of bounds and you are free to discuss as much or as little as you wish. We don’t assume any background knowledge of or belief in Christianity and everyone is welcome.

What is Alpha?
Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in an informal, fun and friendly environment. The Alpha course consists of a series of talks, looking at topics including 'Who is Jesus?' and 'Why and how do I pray?', with the option of a weekend away. We meet for fellowship and each talk is followed by discussion in small groups.

Alpha runs for ten weeks. You don’t have to come to the whole course – just pop along for the first night and see what you think. No pressure.

Okay, I’m interested…what next?
Get in contact with us and we'll let you know when and where the next Alpha course is running     ...Top        ...Home

Leyhill Open Prision

Leyhill open prison has a Christian Chaplaincy team complemented by volunteers who make a valuable contribution to the work of Prison Chaplaincy. Volunteers bring with them a variety of specific skills and gifts. They may:

  • Assist with services of worship
  • Help to lead religious instruction classes
  • Participate in human relationship and parenting classes
  • Counsel the bereaved
  • Befriend selected prisoners
  • Undertake administrative duties and prepare prayer letters
  • Arrange visits by external groups
  • Help prisoners' families and friends in the Visitors' Centre

Volunteers also make a contribution by providing a link with the local community. The work is both challenging and rewarding. Most volunteers find that it provides an opportunity to make a positive difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable and marginalised members of the community.     ...Top        ...Home
